And, many go through a ton of different House design ideas—constantly changing, rebuilding, or tweaking their house to make it bigger, better, and more functional.

But, how do you come up with cool new designs that will take your Minecraft house to the next level? By seeing what other talented Minecraft builders are building, of course.

Personally, I’m not into the whole modern house look—both in Minecraft and in real life. I’m a rustic house type of guy. But, there’s a huge trove of Minecrafters who love the modern house look and that’s why there are so many tutorials on YouTube of how to build these style houses. This nice-looking modern house from popular Minecraft YouTuber WiederDude features four stories, has a pool, and a creatively-done interior.

2. Mountain Watchtower House

I found this cool Minecraft house idea on Reddit. I’m a big fan of building houses on the sides of mountains (you can find a couple other of these mountain-edge-style houses below) and I like what MC Architect has done with his watch tower/house—especally with the sheer size of the mountain he chose to build on and the simple and consistent design he utilized.

3. Underwater Modern House

Another popular challenge for Minecrafters is to build cool and functional houses underwater. That’s what YouTuber VB Builds has done here with his modern underwater house. This isn’t the biggest house out there, but it hits the nail on the head if you’re looking for a modern design (complete with a kitchen design) for a house on the water.

4. Large Wooden Survival House

If you’re looking for a functional house design that will serve you well early in your survival game, this large wooden survival house idea from RainbowGamerPE on YouTube is a great tutorial to check out. By featuring cobblestone and oak, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding the resources necessary to build this nice-looking house fairly quickly in your game.

Here’s another Minecraft house idea from RainbowGamerPE. It’s also another modern house design. This one is a bit more straightforward than the modern house listed at the top of this page, but it sports the iconic “modern” design, has two stories, a pool, and shouldn’t be too hard to build in a survival game as well.

If you’ve got a lot of wood to spare in your survival game, this build from Folli is worth checking out. Dubbed the “Ultimate Survival House” this house design will fit well in a forrest setting. This tutorial isn’t for the faint-of-heart, though, as it is over an hour and thirty minutes long—but, if you’re looking for a detailed Minecraft house tutorial that covers everything, this one is perfect.

7. Wizard’s Tower

Now, this is my kind of Minecraft house idea… a Wizard’s Tower! Because, why build a boring old “modern” house when you can build something unique like this? This build belongs to YouTuber Zaypixel and the tutorial is in-depth and easy to follow along.

8. Mushroom House

YouTuber BlueNerd has a few entries on this list, and for good reason. He puts together some unique builds, including this Mushroom-themed house design. This is a smaller house, but a cool option if you want to put something together that blends in with the surroundings. This video tutorial is an hour long, but it takes you block-by-block through the building process.

9. Large Spruce Mansion

Here’s another cool build idea from Folli. Like his house idea above, this build features a lot of wood—which makes it great for a forrest setting. This build utilizes a lot of spruce logs and cobblestone. In total, the tutorial is nearly an hour long, but it is detailed and easy-to-follow.

10. Japanese Style House

In this house tutorial, Zaypizel walks you through how to build a Japanese style house. The house is primarily built with sandstone, spruce logs and planks, dark oak logs and planks, dark prismarine (for the roof), and spruce trapdoors (which end up looking like bamboo.)

11. Cozy Survival Cottage With Greenhouse

If you’re looking for a cool-looking and functional house design for your survival game, this survival cottage tutorial from YouTuber Jolee would be worth watching. This house design features a lot of easy-to-acquire materials, such as oak and spruce planks and cobblestone. So, you should be able to get it up fairly quickly even if you’re in survival mode.

TonyMC has a lot of cool Minecraft house build tutorials on YouTube. Like his Medieval mansion listed above, this fantasy cottage build is another fun build idea. This one is quite a bit smaller than his Medieval mansion, so if you’re looking for an easier build, this one might be better for you. You could also combine the two builds for the start of your own fantasy/Medieval village.

14. Woodland Mansion

This is the third house idea from TonyMC (and, not the last—see below.) This woodland mansion is incredibly well-done and will work well for anyone who is looking to build their house in the forrest. This house uses a lot of brick, wood, stone bricks, and cobblestone, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to build in your survival game as long as you are willing to spend some time on it.

15. Island Fortress

I don’t know what it is about this TonyMC house build, but it is one of my favorites on this list. I think the realism of lifting the house up on stone blocks is what makes the build for me, but it probably also has to do with its Medieval design as well. In any case, if you’re looking for a fun idea for a house on an island, this build is worth trying.

16. PewDiePie’s House

In this video, PewDiePie shows off his massive house (and Minecraft world). He gained inspiration for his house from Fire Nation in Avatar. This video isn’t so much a building tutorial as it is just PewDiePie/Minecraft content. But, he does show off some cool features in his house, including his Automatic Sorting System (ASS for short).

You might not think that underground houses are cool. I mean, what can you really do with an underground house, other than clearing out space below the ground, and putting all your stuff there, right? Wrong. YouTuber Spudetti shows us how to build an underground house in Minecraft that is actually aesthetically pleasing from above ground.

I like this farmhouse-style survival house that YouTuber SheepGG built for a couple of reasons. First, it doesn’t require a lot of hard-to-get material, so it is a viable option early-on in survival mode. And, second, it has a nice-looking natural design. So, if you’re looking for the best of all worlds (namely, something that can be put together quickly and easily, but that also looks good and will help keep you alive), then you need to check out this house-building tutorial.

19. Medieval Inn

Here’s another Medieval-style house idea from BlueNerd. And, while he built this more as an inn, you could definitely re-do the interior if you want to use it as a house. Like other BlueNerd tutorials, he gives you a full material list and walks you through how to build the house step-by-step.

This wood survival house from SheepGG is very similar to the farmhouse survival video posted above. This one is just a lot bigger. So, if you’re looking for more of a challenge, try this Minecraft house idea out instead.

21. Spruce Wood Survival House

If you want to build a survival house, a lot of the ideas on this list will take a lot of time and effort in acquiring the necessary materials and/or following along with the tutorial. However, in this build by TSMC – Minecraft, he walks you through how to build this straightforward survival house in just under 30 minutes.

When I build Minecraft houses with my kids, we tend to gravitate to a few different styles of houses: castle builds, houses on the edge of mountains, and treehouses. Treehouses are cool for a lot of reasons and they’re fun to build. In this TSMC – Minecraft video, he shows you how to build a nice-looking and functional survival treehouse.

In yet another TSMC tutorial, we’re shown how to build a modern suburban style house. While these kinds of houses aren’t my cup of tea, for anyone who is looking to put together a realistic town or city, this house would fit in perfectly.

24. Fantasy Mansion

In yet another Minecraft house idea tutorial from TonyMC, we have this huge, stunning, fantasy-style mansion. I really like the mix of stone, wood, and sandstone, as well as the two clocks on both of the houses. (Also, why are the roofs different colors and the clocks at different times? There’s some real mystery there…) There’s also a 2-part series that covers the interior of this mansion.

25. Forrest Mansion

If the fantasy-themed mansion above wasn’t big enough for you, how about this monstrous forrest mansion by UltraTyrannomax? This thing is incredible! And, it comes with a connecting tower on the back-side of the house in case the mansion itself wasn’t impressive enough.

YouTuber Savvy found a nice suburban brick house on Google and turned it into a Minecraft house. Savvy’s tutorial igoes fast, so you’ll have to be quick (or use the pause button a lot) to keep up. But, if you’re looking for a unique modern-style house to add to your world (perhaps you’re working on a city?), this would be a great addition.

27. Modern Mansion

When I was looking for awesome Minecraft house ideas for this post, this one from YouTuber Rizzial caught my eye. Why? Because, I actually helped my oldest son complete this house tutorial a couple of years ago. And, if I remember correctly, it was a fun build and my son loved it.

28. Suburban Mansion

Here’s another Minecraft house idea from Rizzial: a modern mansion. This build comes with a two-car garage, three stories, and a porch. Rizzial’s tutorial is only about a half-hour long, too, so it shouldn’t take you too long to put this house together.

29. Another Awesome Modern Mansion

For an even bigger modern-style mansion, this house design from Brandon Stilley Gaming is worth checking out. This is a two-part video and, in total, the tutorial is about an hour long. The house has three stories, a pool, and utilizes a lot of black stained glass to help give it it’s modern feel.

30. Small Medieval House

There’s been a few Medieval-style houses posted above, but they were mostly larger builds. This is a great Medieval house idea from BlueNerd if you’re looking for something with a smaller design. This tutorial is easy to follow and is only about 30-minutes long.

31. Jungle Survival House

If you are looking for inspiration for a jungle-style house for your survival game, this tutorial from YouTuber Block Architecture might help you out. The tutorial isn’t as detailed as some of the others on this list, though, so if you’re looking for a guide that is easier to follow, you might want to look elsewhere.

32. Natural Survival Treehouse

Here’s another treehouse design—this one from Don4Lex on YouTube. This treehouse has a simple design and utilizes mostly oak-blocks, and, therefore, should be something that can be built quickly in a survival game.

33. Aesthetic Survival Jungle House

Here’s another Minecraft jungle house idea. This tutorial was put together by Mia Bloom and features a lot of Jungle planks and Jungle logs, as well as brick slabs and stairs, and green Terracotta. However, this is another video that isn’t so much of a detailed step-by-step guide as it is more of a video that you can pull inspiration from.

34. Wooden Jungle House

If you’re looking for a bigger jungle house design, then you might want to watch this video from VexelVille. This tutorial gives detailed step-by-step directions and is easier to follow than some of the tutorials listd above. In total, the video is ~40 minutes long.

35. Winter Mansion

For those of you that are looking for ideas for houses to build in areas that get snow, this winter mansion is a great option. YouTuber ToxicKailey built this house and has put together a ~30-minute long tutorial that walks you through how to build it step-by-step.

36. Wooden Cabin

Another great option for builders who are looking for a winter/cabin-type house is this design from Mr. Smoose. This build features a lot of wood and so it should be fairly easy to gather the resources necessary to build it in survival. In total the tutorial is just over 20-minutes long.

37. Ultimate Survival Base

This timelapse build from TheMythicalSausage is probably not good as a step-by-step tutorial to follow, but it offers some good inspiration on a large house/compound/base-style build. This survival base features a main house, a bee farm, walls for defense, animal pens, and more.

38. Swamp House

While TheMythicalSausage video above is more a timelapse video than a tutorial, in this video, he offers a very detailed step-by-step build of this cool swamp house. This build relies on a lot of dark oak, but features regular oak as well. There are a lot of different materials used to decorate the house, but the core of the build doesn’t require too many hard-to-get resources, so you should be able to build it in survival fairly easily.

39. Swamp Starter House

For an even easier-to-build design for your survival game, YouTuber Master Majesty gives us this perfect starter swamp house. This build is mostly wood, so you shouldn’t have any trouble gathering the necessary resources to put it together. All-in-all, this ~15-minute tutorial is easy to follow and will give you a nice-looking starter house.

40. Lake House

Here’s another house idea that will work great for survival as it features easy-to-acquire materials and it utilizes a body of water to create a natural defense mechanism. This Minecraft house idea is from Zaypixel. In total, the tutorial is ~30-minutes long and it is laid out in a simple step-by-step process that anyone can follow along.

41. Beach House

Laya Minecraft shows us how to build a bungalo-style beach house in this tutorial video. This is a smaller house that doesn’t utilize hard-to-acquire materials, so you should be able to build it fairly quickly in survival. And, with the long bridge design and the water surrounding it, it will provide good defense against mobs.

42. Boat House

Here’s another cool Minecraft house idea if you want to build something on the water. In this video, BlueBits walks you through how to build a “Boat House,” with detailed step-by-step instructions. The build features mainly wood, so, like with many of the other tutorials on this list, it shouldn’t be tough to build in a survival game.

43. Modern Suburban Boat House

There’s quite a few awesome Minecraft house ideas on this list, but this modern suburan boat house by A1MOSTADDICTED MINECRAFT is maybe even a step above. The boat garages on the bottom story of this house make the build for me. This is a long in-depth tutorial, though, and the house is huge. So, it might not be a great option for a survival game—but if you’ve got a city build going and you want to add an upscale house on a body of water, this house design would be a great addition.

44. Desert Survival House

Here’s another house idea that I really like—this one from YouTuber Julious. This desert-themed survival house features a lot of sandstone and isn’t too large, so if you start out your next survival game in a desert biome, it should be fairly easy to put up quickly. The tutorial is only 14-minutes long, but it does go quickly, so you’ll have to be fast to keep up!

45. Japanese Castle

The previous Japanese-style house feature on this list was a smaller home. In this tutorial from BlueBits, they show us how to build a much larger Japanese-style castle. This is another tutorial that moves fast, so you’ll have to do a lot of pausing to keep up. But, the finished build is truly impressive!

46. Desert Underground Base

This desert-style Minecraft house from ToxicKailey features both above-ground and below-ground sections. This is a large build, but since it is mainly comprised of sand and sandstone, it would be a doable design even if you’re in a survival game. The video is about 30-minutes long, but a lot of the wall-building is edited—so, you’ll need to dedicate a bit more time to this one.

47. Ultimate Nether Base

If you’re looking to build a house or base in the Nether, then these next couple of house ideas are for you. This house design by Reimiho on YouTube is dubbed the “Ultimate Nether Base.” This build sits on a 35 x 25 plot and uses a lot of Basalt, Blackstone, Netherrack, and black stained glass.

48. Nether Lava Mill

Here’s a cool idea for a Minecraft Nether house—a lava mill! I really like the design of this house, because it brings the Medieval style I like so much and mashes it up with a Nether-theme. This house has an extensive material list, though, so it might not be the easiest design for a survival game.

49. Nether Cave Base

In this video, TheMythicalSausage provides us with a timelapse build of his Nether Survival Cave Base. This isn’t a great option if you’re looking for a step-by-step tutorial, but it might give you some inspiration if you were looking for some new ideas on building a house/base in the Nether.

50. Victorian House

Here’s another Minecraft house idea video from BlueBits. In this tutorial, he shows you how to a build a Victorian-style mansion on a 25 x 15 plot. The house looks great as is, but BlueBits also shows you how you can turn it into a haunted mansion with some aesthetic changes.

51. End House

So, you’ve built a house in the Nether, and now you want to build one in The End… In this tutorial, YouTuber Otama The World walks us through how to build his 9 x 7 Nether house. This is a great option for anyone who is looking to get up a quick house build in The End.

52. Wooden Cliffside House

We showcased another house-on-the-cliff at the top of this list and, here, we’ve included another one. This build, from Build Therapy, is a little bit larger than the previous one listed, but it still doesn’t require a lot of hard-to-acquire materials—so, it should be feasible to build this in a survival game as long as you can find a suitable mountain to build it on.

53. Hanging Canyon House

Just when I thought all of the cool house design ideas had already been done, “hanging” houses showed up to prove me wrong. I’ve never seen a hanging house build until I started looking for options for this post, but now I think I’ve found my new favorite Minecraft house idea. And, of the ones I’ve seen, this one is one of the coolest. Featuring three separate sections, and hanging between two cliffs over a canyon, YouTuber SirBuildsALot has put together what is easily one of my favorite options on this list.

54. Mountain Base

In yet another TheMythicalSausage house build video, the YouTuber shows off his Mountain Base build. I like this one a lot because it reminds me a little bit of the Minecraft Mountain Cave Lego set, which, in my opinion, is the most well-done Minecraft Lego set to date.

55. Ultimate Underwater Base

We’ve only featured one underwater house design, so, to finish this list off, here’s another one. This Minecraft house design is by IrieGenie on YouTube. This is a full tutorial that walks you through how to build this exact setup. The build relies heavily on smooth quartz blocks and also features plain glass, oak, and blackstone.
