Get ready, Costco fans.
The big-box warehouse chain might be adding a ninth location to the Lower Mainland — and it’s going to be in South Surrey.
Notices of a proposed development for a new Costco location have been posted on social media online, and it shows the company is eyeing a location at 1891 and 1947 164th Street, a trapezoidal parcel of land between 18th Avenue and 20th Avenue and bounded by Highway 99 to the west.

The proposed project would include a Costco warehouse, a gas station and a parking lot with 989 spaces.
The application seeks to rezone the lots from residential to commercial for a “large format commercial store and associated gas station” for a portion of the site.
It also wants to subdivide two large lots into four lots, with one of the lots to be a city-owned protected riparian lot and another lot to remain zoned for residential for potential development in the future.
The site is currently undeveloped and largely forested, but townhouse complexes and multi-family dwellings have sprouted nearby in recent years.
Further north lies Surrey’s Morgan Heights neighbourhood, which has been rapidly growing. A few blocks south, closer to 14th Avenue, is the Fergus Watershed Biodiversity Preserve.
The application is at a preliminary stage of review and aspects of the proposed project could change as it is reviewed further, said the City of Surrey’s planning department.
It expects the application will go before council later this fall or winter.
If approved and built, the store would be the second Costco warehouse in Surrey and could ease crowds at the company’s other Surrey location, in Newton, and in Langley.
