This is the key to attract and retain the best talent:Invest in your team’s professional growth.Your team needs progression plans, career advancements and a chance to climb the ladder. Most employers promise this but fail to deliver. This usually leads to high turnover due to employees feeling demotivated and neglected. Not really surprising, is it?As a manager, having a clear pathway in place for your people is essential. You should be passionate about contributing to their success 🙌Use AMB’s internal structure as an example. We have Grades 1-6, with clear instructions on how to progress to the next role: Grade 1: Junior Grade 2: ConsultantGrade 3: SeniorGrade 4: PrincipalGrade 5: Divisional ManagerGrade 6: DirectorHigh-performers often seek environments where they can continually develop their skills and work towards their ultimate goals. If your team can’t see a tangible future within your company, you risk losing them. When you show employees they’re valued and supported personally and professionally, everyone reaps the rewards.

Mutual respectPeople respect one another and collaborative thinking is encouraged7. Collaboration and teamworkPeople work well together and help each other to achieve common goals8. Regular feedbackPeople are encouraged to give productive and constructive feedback - at every level-Supporting high-performing teams will bring out the best in your people, as well as:• Improving their productivity and wellbeing• Increasing your employee retention and engagementIt’s a red flag if a company only focuses on their benefits. Benefits don’t equal a great team culture, and certainly won’t keep top talent in the door!Have I missed anything?

Quality brings quantity. Here’s what I mean by that…I’ve spoken to recruiters in the past from different companies that have a ‘bums on seats’ hiring strategy. The mentality of these consultants are usually:The quicker you fill the job, the quicker you get your commission so you can move on to the next. But this way of working won’t enhance long-term client retention or bring about more work.Especially if the candidates you’re delivering aren’t suitable for the job.For us, it’s important to give each and every client a positive experience of working with us.That means:→ Communicating effectively→ Being honest and transparent→ Only providing high-quality candidates At AMB Recruitment Group, we would rather be upfront and let our clients know if we’ve not found the right person yet and need to hold out a while longer. This prevents hiring someone inexperienced, incompetent, not culturally aligned and/or who has a bad reputation. If our clients are happy with the quality of candidates we deliver, they’ll want to work with us again and again. That quality then equates to quantity. And everyone knows it’s easier to get returning clients than to acquire new ones! What are your thoughts on this?

Do you work on your birthday or take it off?We introduced an annual birthday leave policy so my team didn’t have to make this decision.I’ve realised that this extra day off improves employee:→ job satisfaction→ well-being and happiness→ motivation and productivitySo I decided to make the most of this perk myself on Tuesday by taking a day off for my own birthday!Your mind is always ‘on’ when you own a business, but down time is essential so you can recharge and press the reset button.Plus, celebrating in the sun with my family in Menorca makes it a lot easier to unwind ☀️

What would you choose: a £10K Rolex or the holiday of your dreams? That’s the choice awaiting this year’s biggest biller at AMB.We recently introduced an annual award for the biggest biller, as well as our monthly and quarterly incentives.AMB Recruitment Group core values include respect, appreciation and recognition, so rewarding high performance is really important to us.Last year we set a target, and whoever was the biggest biller at AMB would win a watch or holiday. Same again next year!-A massive well done to Joe Bakewell who smashed last years target and chose a Rolex Datejust as his prize. Thanks for all your outstanding efforts Joe - proud to have you on the team 🙌

It doesn’t get much better than this… Taking clients to play at the elusive 🏌️♂️⛳️I had a brilliant day on Friday as part of the Investival event, raising money for UHNM Charity during the annual Net-Worth Ntwrk Charity Golf Day.There’s nothing like strengthening client relationships on the course while supporting a great cause. The quality of this course, created by JCB, really is incredible. And although it was challenging, I was buzzing to play on the same course that will host golf’s very best this month for LIV Golf tournament!

Employees don’t care about superficial office perks. These ‘benefits’ don’t have long-term impact:Drinks on tap, free coffees and pizzas, dress-down days and games rooms that are rarely used. If you want to attract and retain the best talent, here’s what employees actually care about (at a bare minimum):Autonomous respect → Makes your people feel valued and understoodIncreased earning potential→ Performance-based rewards encourage your team to excel Promoting balance→ Increases well-being and overall job satisfaction Transparency, collaboration and communication→ Builds trust, promotes fairness and facilitates feedbackTraining and growth opportunities→ Workers are both supported and motivated, which increases confidence and productivityDemonstrating genuine empathy and compassion→ Taking a human-first approach and offering flexible working and bespoke perks(Such as extended paternity leave and birthday leave). Invest in your team and they will pay you back ten-fold. Companies must adapt and create an environment that makes people want to stay. That’s how you retain high-performers and recruit top talent.

We opened our brand new office in Manchester this week!I originally started my agency on the side whilst working full-time.It feels surreal to now have offices in Manchester, Cheshire and Liverpool. And this is only the beginning of AMB Recruitment Group’s expansion plans across the UK…We have ambitious goals for the North, so creating a strong Manchester-based team was pivotal.I’m certain our 2 new team members will get us to where we need to be!I’m thrilled to introduce you to them both:Paul Hovington is our New Divisional Manager in Manchester. His leadership skills and expertise will play a key role in growing our agency’s presence as we grow in this diverse and dynamic city.Jade-Lee Mclaren is our new Senior Recruitment Consultant.Jade has a decade of experience working in the construction industry and I know she’ll help take our team to new heights.Meeting clients and candidates face-to-face is extremely important for us to build rapport and relationships, which is why we’re opening offices nationwide.I’m looking forward to expanding our reach in key regions 🚀And in the meantime, we’ll be hiring new recruitment consultants in Manchester!Get in touch with Ronnie O'Sullivan if you’re interested in a new role.

Common practices in recruitment agencies that need to change:- Pushing candidates into ill-fitting roles to hit targets- Bold promises with unrealistic outcomes- Dishonesty and a lack of integrity- Quantity over quality models- Impersonal hiring processesThe recruitment sector gets a bad rep because of practices like this. Having been both an agency worker and a client supervising agency workers, I've witnessed these issues firsthand.Instead of falling into these traps, we should aim to create successful relationships with both clients and candidates by:- Taking a personal approach- Being a genuinely reliable agency- Being open, honest and transparent- Understanding people’s needs and goals- Being okay with having difficult, and sometimes awkward, conversationsA great agency isn’t only focused on pay cheques and closing deals. They deliver exceptional customer service at all times, through every touch point. And that’s exactly what we strive for at AMB Recruitment Group.
